September 1, (THEWILL) – Transfer deadline day saw its usual drama as Liverpool rejected a staggering £150 million bid from Saudi side Al-Ittihad for star forward Mohamed Salah.
The Reds dismissed the offer out of hand, considering Salah not for sale at any price. The bid was £100m upfront and £50m in add-ons. Meanwhile, Brighton completed the loan signing of Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, who said he was “delighted” to join Brighton on loan and experience the English Premier League. Manchester City and Chelsea also concluded deals, with City signing midfielder Matheus Nunes from Wolves for £53m and loaning Tommy Doyle to the Midlands club.
Chelsea paid £40m plus add-ons for City Academy product Cole Palmer. Manchester United were active too, signing Turkish keeper, Altay Bayindir, from Fenerbahce and taking defender Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham. Nottingham Forest added Arsenal full-back, Nuno Tavares, on loan and Brennan Johnson departed the City Ground for Tottenham in a £45m+ deal.
Aston Villa brought in Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet on loan to shore up their defence. Elsewhere, Tottenham loaned defender Japhet Tanganga to Augsburg and Wolverhampton Wanderers broke their club record sale fee by offloading Nunes to City.
The deadline day has brought the usual frenzy of last-minute deals. Liverpool held firm on Salah despite incredible interest, while top clubs shuffled squads and emerging talents got opportunities. Soon, all attention will return to the pitch and the battles ahead this season with the international break around the corner.
