April 29, (THEWILL) — The family of late rapper Tupac Shakur has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles, seeking unspecified damages linked to his 1996 murder.
The lawsuit, filed on April 28, 2026, is led by Tupac’s stepbrother Maurice Shakur, who is acting as the administrator of the estate of their late father, Mutulu Shakur.
It names Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the only person ever charged in connection with Tupac’s death, as the main defendant.
Davis, a former gang leader, is awaiting trial for his alleged role in the shooting and has pleaded not guilty.
The lawsuit alleges that Tupac’s murder was part of a “complex conspiracy,” and the family says it hopes to identify others involved in the case.
It also includes unnamed co-conspirators, referred to as “John Does 1 through 100,” who the family aims to identify through legal discovery.
Tupac Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, in a drive-by attack in Las Vegas. He died six days later at the age of 25.
The lawsuit argues that new evidence, including grand jury transcripts and a Netflix documentary, points to a wider conspiracy than previously known.
The documentary “Sean Combs: The Reckoning”, released in December 2025, features an interview with Davis in which he claims that Sean “Diddy” Combs offered him $1 million to kill Tupac.
Combs has denied the allegations, calling the documentary “a shameful hit piece.”
The case adds to the long-running mystery surrounding Tupac’s death, as his family continues to seek justice nearly 30 years later.
