May 26 (THEWILL) — South African music star, Tyla, emerged as the only African winner at the 2026 American Music Awards (AMAs), taking home two awards.
The singer won Best Afrobeats Artiste and Social Song of the Year for her hit single “Chanel” at the ceremony held on Monday, May 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Tyla was not present at the event, but her wins made her one of the night’s standout artistes.
The Best Afrobeats Artist win marked her second consecutive victory in the category, ahead of fellow nominees, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema and MOLIY.
The South African singer entered the night with four nominations, making her the most-nominated African artiste in AMA history.
Her latest wins add to a growing list of international achievements, following previous Grammy success and major global performances.
The 2026 AMAs were hosted by Queen Latifah and featured winners, including BTS, Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars, Cardi B and Katseye.
