October 04, (THEWILL) – Todd duBoef of Top Rank, Tyson Fury’s promoter, has reminded him of Deontay Wilder’s brutal power ahead of this Saturday’s third of the trilogy battle between the two fierce heavyweight rivals, where Fury will defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) belt against Wilder in Las Vegas.
After their first fight finished in a thrilling draw, Fury ended Wilder’s title reign with a dazzling knockout in their second battle, and has now been advised to be alert in their third fight, with the hindsight of Anthony Joshua’s Heavyweight loss to Oleksandr Usyk.
Todd duBoef, president at Top Rank, Fury’s American promotional team, has offered some wise counsel to Fury: “My gut says that Tyson will do what Tyson does best in a continuation of the second fight.
“But he had better be careful. On October 9 it will give us the chance to put an absolute conclusion to the trilogy. Both of these guys have been out for so long and everybody is waiting for this.
“Anthony Joshua losing has mixed the pot. Intrigue has been created. Boxing never changes, it is so dynamic. The light is now on Fury and Wilder. We will see the boxing renaissance keep going.”
As THEWILL reported, Joshua lost his World Boxing Organisation (WBO), World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight titles to Usyk, whose incredible performance has changed the complexion of the division ahead of Fury’s rematch with Wilder.
THEWILL recalls that earlier this year, Joshua and Fury negotiated an undisputed title match, but plans in that direction, to unify all the belts under one undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, were forced to be shelved after an arbitrator set a deadline for Fury’s trilogy with Wilder.
DuBoef said: “I can say that when Fury vs Wilder II ended, I looked to my wife and said: ‘This may have been the most wonderful event in my 20 years that I have ever put on’. It had energy, it had competition between passionate fans in America and the UK, it had a definitive ending and it was a spectacle.
“I’ve been involved in big fights that didn’t have a definitive ending, like Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Trinidad. Then COVID-19 hit and I wondered: ‘Will I ever revisit that unbelievable moment again?'”
That opportunity will come when the WBC and The Ring heavyweight champion, Fury, “The Gypsy King”, takes on former WBC heavyweight champion, Wilder, “The Bronze Bomber”, in their October 9 professional boxing trilogy fight billed as Once and For All, at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
