November 05, (THEWILL) — Tottenham Hotspur delivered a dominant performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday evening, defeating FC Copenhagen 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League. The result came despite the home side playing more than half an hour with 10 men following a red card.
Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for Spurs with his maiden goal in the competition, beating goalkeeper, Dominik Kotarski, and converting from a tight angle on the right flank. Wilson Odobert extended the lead after half-time, finishing from Randal Kolo Muani’s delivery before Johnson received a straight red card in the 57th minute for a studs-up tackle on Marcos Lopez.
The numerical disadvantage appeared to galvanise the hosts rather than hinder them. Micky van de Ven produced a memorable individual strike in the 64th minute, surging forward from deep before firing a powerful shot inside the near post. Joao Palhinha, introduced as a substitute after the red card, added a fourth goal three minutes later by converting Cristian Romero’s through ball.
Tottenham created numerous additional opportunities throughout the match. Kolo Muani was denied by Kotarski whilst Richarlison hit the frame of the goal twice, first with a header and later from the penalty spot after Dane Scarlett was fouled in the area.
The comprehensive victory moves Spurs to seventh position in the UEFA Champions League table and marks their first home triumph in any competition since September.
