SAN FRANCISCO, November 18, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich’s winger Kingsley Coman wrapped up a 4-2 win for France in the UEFA Nations League Group A3 tie on Tuesday as he punished a Sweden side who were chasing an equaliser to retain their League A status.
Late into the fixture, Sweden sent goalkeeper Robin Olsen up for a late free-kick. The visitors were playing to salvage the match by getting at least a draw that would have been enough to keep them up and relegate Croatia, who lost 3-2 to Portugal.
But Dejan Kulusevski’s free-kick delivery was cleared and Coman immediately countered to slot into the empty net on the break.
It was a game that opened up with a Viktor Claesson goal and put the visitors in front at the Stade de France inside four minutes. Olivier Giroud then drew France level in the 16th minute before Benjamin Pavard turned the game around in the 36th minute.
There was an assist for substitute Kylian Mbappe, who teed up Giroud for the latter’s double just 70 seconds into his return from injury. Robin Quaison’s 88th-minute strike made it 3-2 and gave Sweden hope. All that was left was for Coman to kill the game with the final kick.
