SAN FRANCISCO, December 06, (THEWILL) – For the second straight match, Manchester United needed to come from behind as fabulous second-half goals from midfielder Paul Pogba and youngster Mason Greenwood helped the Red Devils claim a 3-1 Premier League victory away at West Ham’s London Stadium.
Last time out, a Cavani-inspired fightback gave them a 3-2 win having been 2-0 down at Southampton. The Uruguayan substitute provided an assist for the equaliser and scored two himself to give United all three points.
In reminiscent fashion, West Ham opened the scoring through Tomas Soucek in a first half that was witness to an abject Man U performance where Soucek’s 38th-minute opener was the least West Ham deserved.
West Ham could have piled on the misery for the visitors if they had only been more clinical in the final-third. Chances were spurned by striker Sebastien Haller and right winger Jarrod Bowen either side of half-time.
Solskjaer introduced Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in place of Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani in the second half for a fresh set of legs and ideas. And that was what changed the game in United’s favour.
However, it was not until the 65th minute before the visitors found the back of the net. Fernandes laid on the hitherto ineffective Pogba for a sumptuous 25-yard equaliser. The momentum was powerful after that and exquisite finishes from Greenwood, three minutes after the equaliser, and from Rashford, 10 minutes later, put away a deflated West Ham.
Man U are back in Champions League action on Tuesday as their next match is a trip to Germany for a Group H tie against RB Leipzig while West Ham will wait until Friday for an away fixture in the Premier League against Leeds.
