May 22, (THEWILL) – Valencia have publicly denounced the insults and attacks, including racial abuse, directed at Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior during their recent match at the Mestalla stadium.
As THEWILL reported, the Brazilian forward was subjected to racist chants from certain individuals in the crowd, which he reacted to in incidents that resulted in his expulsion from the game. In an official statement released on the club’s website, Valencia expressed their firm commitment to respect and sportsmanship, vehemently opposing any form of physical or verbal violence within football stadiums.
The club expressed deep sadness over the incidents that transpired during the La Liga Matchday 35 fixture against Real Madrid, adding: “Although this is an isolated episode, insults to any opposing player have no place in football and do not fit with the values and identity of Valencia CF.
“The club are investigating what occurred and will take the most severe measures against the perpetrators. Valencia CF also condemn any offence and request the utmost respect for our fans.”
Valencia expressed gratitude towards the overwhelming support received from the more than 46,000 fans in attendance, who stood by the team throughout the match.
