January 09, (THEWILL) — Valencia CF have confirmed the permanent transfer of Nigerian forward Sadiq Umar, from Real Sociedad on a deal running until June 2028. The club finalised the agreement on Thursday, paying approximately €4.5 million with additional performance clauses.

Umar spent the latter half of last season on loan at the Camp de Mestalla, contributing six goals across 19 matches. His performances earned him the LaLiga EA Sports Goal of the Month award for March, a testament to his effectiveness in Spanish football’s top division.

The 28-year-old Kaduna native completed medical examinations on Wednesday before his official presentation at the Ciudad Deportiva two days later. Manager Carlos Corberán can now select Umar for the upcoming fixture against Elche following the completion of registration formalities.

Valencia identified the striker’s physical presence and aerial dominance, combined with his ability to contribute in build-up play and long-ball situations, as crucial factors in strengthening their forward line. The club view these attributes as essential additions under Corberán’s tactical system.

This acquisition represents the fourth most expensive January 2026 signing for Valencia, reflecting the organisation’s determination to improve their standing in the league table. The investment in Umar forms part of a broader recruitment activity aimed at bolstering results in the second half of the campaign.
