March 06, (THEWILL) — Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has raised concerns over Nigeria’s electricity situation, revealing that he spends about ₦40,000 daily to power his home.
The 78-year-old actor made the disclosure during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), where he spoke about the effect of erratic power supply on Nigerians.
Breaking down his expenses, Edochie explained that he spends money on electricity units as well as fuel for generators used to supplement the unstable public power supply.
“I pay ₦10,000 every day for light in my house. Then I spend ₦20,000 on diesel and another ₦10,000 for fuel. That brings the total to ₦40,000 daily just to provide electricity in my house,” he said.
“It disturbs me a lot because I’m not just working for light. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power.
“Nobody seems to be bothered about what’s happening to the common man. Why must we keep getting worse every single day? Can’t things be improved?” he added.
Edochie’s comments add to the growing calls for lasting solutions to Nigeria’s long-standing power challenges, as many citizens continue to face high energy costs and inconsistent electricity.
