April 06, (THEWILL) – Afrobeats singer, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, has finally congratulated Angelique Kidjo, the Beninese singer, for her win at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
His congratulations are coming two days after he lost out to her at the Grammy Awards, which took place on Sunday.
Wizkid lost the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category to Kidjo. Many had touted Wizkid’s Made in Lagos Album and his single, Essence for likely wins, unfortunately it didn’t quite pan out. He was also unable to claim the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category, which was won by Arooj Aftab, the Pakistani vocalist.
The singer’s Grammy loss had sparked a wave of criticism among his fans on social media with some calling out the Recording Academy.
Also, his fans took to Angelique’s page to troll her for beating their idol to the award. They slandered the 64-year-old so much she had to disable the comment section of her social media.
