June 03, (THEWILL) – The FA Cup Golden Ball for the leading goalscorer of the 2022/2023 season has been awarded to Wrexham’s Paul Mullin.
With an impressive total of nine goals, Mullin outshone his competitors, including Louie Theophanous of Beckenham Town and Jon Clements of Biggleswade Town, both with eight goals each. Despite Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez remaining a strong contender with five goals, his absence from City’s 2-1 win over Manchester United limited his chances.
Mullin’s scoring prowess was evident throughout the tournament, with single goals against Blyth Spartans and Coventry, doubles against Oldham and Sheffield United, and an outstanding hat-trick against Farnborough. The award was presented to Mullin on Saturday, with co-owner, Ryan Reynolds, joining him for a celebratory photo.

Their journey began in the fourth qualifying round, where they overcame Blyth Spartans 3-2 in a replay after a 1-1 draw. Victories over Oldham Athletic (3-0) and Farnborough (4-1) followed in the subsequent rounds. The team faced a tough challenge in the form of Championship side Coventry in the third round, prevailing in a thrilling 4-3 encounter. The introduction of the Golden Ball award for top scorers adds further prestige to Mullin’s remarkable achievement in the FA Cup.
