A British Airways flight from Aberdeen to London was delayed for nearly two hours because a traffic cone became wedged under the aircraft.
In an incident that left the crew scratching their heads, engineers were only able to remove the offending item to inspect the damage after disembarking all the passengers and luggage.
A passenger, Claire Buckley said the captain “sounded genuinely stunned” that such an event could have happened as he gave them updates.
Eventually, the passengers were told that the “skin” of the aircraft had not been pierced but a dent made by the cone had “popped back out” and the plane had been cleared to travel on to Heathrow.
A British Airways spokeswoman said: “The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority.
“Our highly trained engineers inspected the aircraft before it continued on its journey.”
“We are sorry for the delay to customers’ travel plans,” she said.
The cone was left under the jet as it was being loaded and passengers were getting on board.
Passengers were told that the extra weight pushed the fuselage down onto it.
The flight later arrived safely back in London with no further issues.
