June 02, (THEWILL) — Hollywood actress, Anna Kendrick, has signed on to direct Netflix’s adaptation of “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, marking her second feature as a director following the success of “Woman of the Hour”.
Based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling 2017 novel, the film follows Evelyn Hugo, a reclusive Old Hollywood star, who grants a final interview to an unknown journalist. As she reflects on her life and career, Evelyn reveals the truth behind her seven marriages, Hollywood scandals and long-held secrets.
Kendrick takes over the project after filmmakers Maggie Betts and Leslye Headland were previously attached to direct the adaptation. Netflix acquired the rights to the novel in 2022.
Kendrick made her directorial debut with “Woman of the Hour”, the true-crime thriller that Netflix acquired after its premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. As an actress, she is best known for the “Pitch Perfect” franchise and “A Simple Favour”.
No casting details or release date have been announced. The adaptation remains one of Netflix’s most anticipated book-to-screen projects.
