August 29, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have completed terms on a Dutch record deal with Ajax to finally reach the transfer deal to bring Antony to Old Trafford and the forward is set to have a physical on Monday, at the club’s Carrington training headquarters.
United verbally agreed to pay £85m for Antony on Saturday and the specifics and other add-ons were worked out by the two parties over the course of the rest of the weekend.
The 13-time English Premier League winners were involved in a protracted bidding process to get the player. They made three prior offers for Antony, the most recent of which was for £76.7m, but Ajax had rejected them in order to achieve a club-record sale, especially given Old Trafford’s desperation to get their man.
Ajax remained steadfast in their high estimation of Antony wanting more than the £78m that Barcelona paid for Frenkie de Jong in 2019. In the end, United agreed to pay €95m (£80.8m) in guaranteed fees and an additional €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons for Antony, who has missed Ajax’s last two Eredivisie games in an effort to force a move.
He is expected to sign a five-year contract with an additional 12-month option, and United is hoping to finalise the transfer in time for the Brazilian to be registered for the Premier League match against Leicester City on Thursday.
