March 19, (THEWILL) — Asake has opened up about his strained relationship with his father during the early days of his music career.
In an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the singer said his father, Fatai Odunsi, strongly opposed his decision to pursue music, which led him to leave home at the age of 15.
He described his father as very strict, making it difficult to confront him directly.
“The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face.
“We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no.
“But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me,” he said.
Despite their early disagreements, Asake said his love for his father has remained unchanged.
Their relationship drew public attention in 2025 when his father accused him of neglect during a period of illness, sparking online controversy.
The two have since reconciled, with the singer now taking responsibility for his father’s welfare.
