April 09, (THEWILL) — “Back to the Future” star Michael J. Fox has reassured fans he is “ok” after CNN mistakenly aired a tribute video about him, sparking a brief death scare online.
The 64-year-old actor reacted on Threads after a clip titled “Remembering the life of actor Michael J. Fox” was published in error.
“How do you react when you turn on the TV, and CNN is reporting your death?” he wrote.
Fox added: “Do you…A) switch to MNSBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scalding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she’s concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wtf?”
“I thought the world was ending, but apparently it’s just me, and I’m ok. Love, Mike”, he concluded.
CNN later confirmed the video was published by mistake and removed it from its platforms.
“The package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms and send our apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family”, a spokesperson said.
The clip reportedly highlighted Fox’s career, including his roles in “Back to the Future” and “Family Ties”, as well as his advocacy work.
Fox, diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, has become a leading voice in raising awareness and supporting research through his foundation.
His representative confirmed he is in good health and recently appeared at a public event in Los Angeles.
The incident caused concern among fans, who took to social media to confirm the actor’s status before CNN issued its apology.
