November 24, (THEWILL) — Bollywood legend Dharmendra, popularly known as the He‑Man of Indian cinema, has died at the age of 89.
He passed away on 24 November 2025 at his home in Mumbai, just weeks before his 90th birthday.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute, writing, “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people”
With a career spanning more than six decades, Dharmendra appeared in over 300 films.
He made his debut in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and became a household name through roles in classics such as Sholay (1975), Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Phool Aur Patthar (1966), Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), and many more.
Dharmendra continued to work actively even in his later years. His most recent film release was Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024), and his last film, Ikkis, is set to be released posthumously.
Dharmendra was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and awarded the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honours, in 2012 for his outstanding contributions to Hindi cinema.
His passing has prompted widespread mourning across Bollywood and beyond, with tributes continuing to pour in from fans, colleagues and fellow actors.
