May 29 (THEWILL) — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s eldest son, Maddox, has filed to legally remove “Pitt” from his surname.
The 24-year-old made the request on Thursday, May 28, stating “personal” reasons in court documents. If approved, his name will change from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
Maddox has not publicly commented on the move.
The filing comes after he previously stopped using “Jolie-Pitt” in professional credits. He was listed as Maddox Jolie in his mother’s 2025 film “Couture”, where he worked as an assistant director.
Before Maddox, three of the couple’s six children had also dropped “Pitt” from their names in public and professional settings.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie split in 2016 after a highly publicised and messy separation. They were declared legally single in 2019, but legal disputes between the former couple are still ongoing.
