March 23, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has praised Nigerian athletes for their exceptional performance in various sporting events, commending their dedication and commitment to their craft.
He made this known during a meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, after the Minister received a “Special Recognition Award for Contributions to Sports Development in Nigeria and the Africa Region” from President Mohammed Solih of Maldives.
The President expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the honour done to the country and recounted the achievements of Nigeria’s national football team, Super Eagles, both nationally and internationally. He also acknowledged Nigeria’s absence at the Qatar World Cup 2022.
President Buhari commended the Minister for his significant contribution to sports development in Nigeria, citing the transformation of the sector from recreation to business. He also praised the revamping of infrastructure and the resulting laurels harvested at international events by Nigerian athletes, while commending the unity of purpose that has prevailed in several sporting associations.
