Nigerian Afrobeats star, Burna Boy, has made history as the first African artiste to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 songs chart, marking another major achievement in his career.
The Grammy-winning singer reached the top spot with “Dai Dai”, his collaboration with Colombian superstar, Shakira, and the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The song climbed to No. 1 after recording strong streaming numbers and digital sales worldwide.
The Billboard Global 200 ranks the most popular songs worldwide based on streaming and sales data from more than 200 regions. Burna Boy’s achievement makes him the first African artist to top the chart.
“Dai Dai” has also remained at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, which tracks music popularity in markets outside America, for three consecutive weeks. It also became the first official FIFA World Cup anthem to reach the top spot on that ranking.
In the United States, the song moved up 12 places to reach a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking its best performance on the chart so far.

The achievement adds to Burna Boy’s growing list of records and highlights the rising popularity of Afrobeats around the world.
