July 8 (THEWILL) — Celebrated Ghanaian visual artist and Guinness World Record holder, Sharon Dede Padi, popularly known as Padiki, has died at the age of 50.
News of her death emerged on Tuesday, July 7. The Ghana Tourism Authority later confirmed her passing and expressed sadness over the loss.
Her family has not officially announced the cause of death. However, local media reports say she died after suffering an asthma attack and other underlying health conditions.
Padiki gained international recognition in 2025 after setting the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest leaf-print painting. The artwork measured 54.33 square metres and made her the first official holder of the record.
She was recently appointed the Visual Arts Ambassador for the 200th Odwira Festival celebrations, one of Ghana’s oldest traditional festivals.
In a statement, the Ghana Tourism Authority described her as a symbol of creativity, resilience and excellence. It said her achievement brought pride to Ghana and inspired many young artists.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fellow artists, fans and public figures, who have praised her contribution to Ghana’s creative industry.
