SAN FRANCISCO, November 17, (THEWILL) –Â The sad passing of a football player of Crown Football Club, Ogbomoso, Usman Yusuf on Sunday has been announced. Yusuf, who slumped during a friendly match in Abeokuta, Ogun State, later died in hospital.
THEWILL learnt he slumped at the Muda Lawal Stadium, Asero, Abeokuta where he was featuring in a trial match for Gateway Football Club. He was resuscitated after the medics attended to him on the spot and was later taken to the State Hospital, Ijaye where he reportedly passed on.
The media officer of Gateway FC, Moses Ojewumi confirmed the unfortunate incident on Monday in Abeokuta. “Usman Yusuf who came on trial played the first half in a friendly against Sliema Wanderers on Sunday afternoon,” Ojewumi explained.
“During halftime, he slumped and the team doctor attended to him.”
“It was later in the night that a call came in from the camp that he had suffered a relapse. He was immediately rushed to State Hospital, Ijaiye where he died,” Ojewunmi said in a statement.
The Media Officer quoted the Acting General Manager of Gateway FC, Niyi Soleye as expressing shock over the untimely death of Yusuf.
