May 11, (THEWILL) — Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, claiming the electronics company used her image on TV packaging without permission.
The lawsuit, filed on May 8 in the US District Court for the Central District of California, alleges that Samsung used a copyrighted photo of Lipa backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival on boxes for multiple TV models sold in the US.
Lipa’s legal team says the packaging created a false impression that she endorsed the TVs.
Social media posts reportedly showed fans calling the products “Dua Lipa TV Boxes” and saying they would buy them because of her image.
According to the complaint, Lipa became aware of the packaging in June 2025, and claims Samsung ignored repeated requests to stop using her image.
The lawsuit cites copyright infringement, misappropriation of likeness, trademark violations, and claims under the Lanham Act.
This U.S. law protects against false advertising, trademark infringement, and misuse of a person’s or brand’s identity in commerce.
Lipa, who has worked with brands including Apple, Porsche, Versace, Bulgari, and Nespresso, is seeking at least $15 million, plus legal fees and a permanent ban on Samsung’s use of her image.
Samsung has not commented.
