March 29, (THEWILL) – Former Spain and Barcelona Coach, Luis Enrique, has expressed his desire to work in the English Premier League, but has seemingly ruled out replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.
THEWILL recalls that Enrique left his position with Spain after their defeat to Morocco in the last-16 stage of the 2022 World Cup, and has been linked with several high-profile jobs, including the Brazil national team. However, he appears to have been associated with Spurs the most recently.
In an interview on Wednesday, Enrique stated that he would like to go to England to work but he does not expect to be in the EPL in time for next season. “I would like to go to a team there that can do important things, and that is very difficult. I would not go to [just] any Premier League team,” he said. This suggests that the Spurs job would be a non-starter for him.
Enrique confirmed that he has received offers from national teams, but seems less interested in returning to the international stage. “I don’t see myself coaching Brazil… Another coach profile fits in there better than mine. They haven’t called me. I don’t know if my style fits the best with Brazil,” he explained.
Enrique also acknowledged that, as a coach for another country, facing Spain would be difficult for him, stating, “although it would be very difficult for me to face Spain. I don’t know if I will be ready.”
