May 03, (THEWILL) – Manchester United fans are being encouraged to leave Old Trafford 17 minutes before the end of the team’s final home game of the season against Brentford on Monday night, by a United fan group.

The Red Devils have had a terrible season and are on course to finish with their lowest Premier League points total ever, if they fail to get three consecutive victories in their remaining games.

Protests against the club’s ownership have occurred at recent home matches due to the Old Trafford’s disappointing on-field performance and a perceived lack of investment in the club’s infrastructure.

Now, a fan club involved in the protests is urging fans to take it a step further. In addition to the normal pre-game protest against the Glazer family, “The 1958” group is urging fans to exit 17 minutes early — one minute for each year the club has been under current ownership.

If supporters respond to this call, Manchester United players may be compelled to perform an embarrassing lap of appreciation in front of a large number of empty seats during their final home match.

These demonstrations are the most recent in a string of fan activity at Old Trafford in recent years.

THEWILL recalls that following the failed attempt to launch a European Super League in April 2021, fan protests erupted, forcing United’s Premier League match against Liverpool to be postponed.
