October 18, (THEWILL) — Nottingham Forest have dismissed manager Ange Postecoglou following a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The Australian became the first Forest boss to fail to win any of his opening eight matches in charge since taking over in September.
Chelsea are currently in sixth place on 14 points after goals from Pedro Neto and teenage defender Josh Acheampong sealed victory at the City Ground.
Forest drop to 18th in the English Premier League table with just five points from their opening fixtures, having now failed to score in three consecutive home league games for the first time since October 1998.
The club confirmed the decision minutes after the final whistle, stating Postecoglou had been “relieved of his duties with immediate effect” following “a series of disappointing results and performances”.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager had replaced Nuno Espírito Santo in September but managed only one goal across his first five league matches, matching the worst record for a mid-season appointment since Alan Shearer at Newcastle in 2009.
Postecoglou had delivered an impassioned defence of his methods on Friday but could not avoid a fourth defeat in five league games.
