April 09, (THEWILL) — “Game of Thrones” star Michael Campbell died on April 7, 2026, at the age of 35 following a battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Campbell passed away at a hospice in Northern Ireland, surrounded by family and friends, after living with the condition for about three years.
The actor, who also appeared in “Blue Lights” and “This Town,” was diagnosed in early 2023. Despite his illness, he continued to work and earned praise for his performances on stage and screen.
In one of his final social media posts in February, Campbell shared a health update and said he had decided against a major medical procedure, choosing instead to focus on his quality of life.
He added that he still had “lots to live for and lots planned.”
His wife, Naomi, confirmed his death in a tribute, describing him as “an inspiration” who lived “a life as full as any human can live,” marked by “joy” and “infectious laughter.”
Campbell was widely recognized for his stage work, including an award-winning performance in a wheelchair-based adaptation of “The Tragedy of Richard III,” which earned him a major theatre honour in 2025.
He is survived by his wife and family. A funeral mass is scheduled to take place in Northern Ireland.
