March 31, (THEWILL) — Ghana have dismissed head coach Otto Addo with 72 days remaining before their opening fixture at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the termination in an official statement on Tuesday, effective immediately.
The decision followed back-to-back friendly defeats in the team’s World Cup preparations. Ghana fell 5-1 to Austria on Friday before suffering a 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart just days later, conceding 10 goals across their last four matches.
Addo was appointed in March 2024 but could not steer Ghana to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite having Premier League forwards Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo at his disposal.
He departed with eight wins and nine defeats from 22 matches in charge.
Ghana, making their fifth World Cup appearance, are placed in Group L alongside Croatia, England, and Panama.
The compressed timeline means the GFA must move swiftly to install a replacement capable of preparing the squad in under three months.
The abrupt exit leaves Ghana in an uncertain position heading into one of football’s biggest stages.
Whoever takes charge will inherit a side in poor form and limited preparation time before the tournament kicks off in North America.
