March 09, (THEWILL) — American actress, Jennifer Runyon, known for her roles in ‘Ghostbusters’ and the sitcom ‘Charles in Charge’, has died at the age of 65.
Runyon’s family confirmed her death in a social media post shared on Sunday.
“This past Friday [March 6], our beloved Jennifer passed away. It was a long and arduous journey that ended with her surrounded by her family. She will always be remembered for her love of life and her devotion to her family and friends. Rest in peace, our Jenn”, the post read.
Her friend, actress Erin Murphy, also confirmed the news in a Facebook tribute, revealing that Runyon died after “a brief battle with cancer.”
“Some people you just know you’ll be friends with before you even meet. She was a special lady. I’ll miss you, Jenn. My thoughts are with your family and beautiful children”, Murphy wrote.
Runyon was born in Chicago in April 1960. She began her acting career in the 1980 film ‘To All a Good Night’.
She later appeared in the 1984 films ‘Up the Creek’ and ‘Ghostbusters’, where she played a student participating in a paranormal test alongside actors Bill Murray and Steven Tash.
Runyon also starred as Gwendolyn Pierce on the sitcom ‘Charles in Charge’. She appeared in several television shows during the 1980s and 1990s, including ‘A Very Brady Christmas’, ‘Quantum Leap’, and ‘Murder, She Wrote’.
In later years, Runyon stepped back from acting and worked as a teacher after becoming semi-retired from the industry. She also co-hosted a cooking podcast.
Her death prompted tributes from colleagues and friends who remembered her kindness and devotion to her family.
