June 10 (THEWILL) — Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa has explained why he did not host the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2026.
The ceremony marked the end of his 11-year streak, as it was the first time he had not hosted since the awards began in 2013.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, IK said his absence was not due to any disagreement with Africa Magic, but a decision based on his personal values and beliefs.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be,” he said.
He maintained that he still has a good relationship with the network. “Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”
IK explained that his decision was influenced by sponsorships for the 2026 edition, which included alcohol and tobacco brands.
“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition. I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands.
“So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition. I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed,” he said.
Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha stepped in as co-hosts for the 12th edition of the AMVCA.
