May 11, (THEWILL) — Emmanuel Odiniya, father of former Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, has spoken out following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted his daughter.
The situation came to public attention after Ilebaye went live on Instagram early on May 9, 2026, showing visible injuries and pleading for help.
In an audio statement circulating on social media, the Kogi politician claimed he contributed “well over 75%” to her 2023 victory, citing political connections and support from governors and other officials.
“I want to put the records straight that what led to that incident was not that I don’t love my daughter. She is one of my best children,” he said.
He added that he made significant sacrifices and mobilized support to help her win BBNaija All Stars.
According to Emmanuel, their relationship deteriorated after her victory.
“After she came out and won, she changed. Ilebaye stopped listening to me. I would book her appointments five to six times a week, and she wouldn’t give me audience. She stopped regarding me as her father,” he alleged.
He also criticized her lifestyle and cosmetic procedures.
“I warned her against getting cosmetic surgery, face reconstruction with fillers, and BBL. She’s too young for that,” he said.
Emmanuel further claimed that Ilebaye had attacked him in the past and that the latest confrontation began when she allegedly assaulted him first.
“I hit her out of provocation to scold her because I can’t watch her destroy her life,” he added.
He also expressed frustration over her refusal to support him financially despite his health issues.
Police responded to a distress call at the family’s Abuja residence in the Royal Anchor Estate, Wuye, following Ilebaye’s livestream.
Emmanuel Odiniya was taken into custody, while Ilebaye and her siblings were taken to a hospital for treatment.
SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Despite the allegations, Emmanuel said he still loves his daughter and hopes for reconciliation.
“I still love my daughter deeply. I want her to change and do better. I ask for prayers from Nigerians. The police have already intervened and settled the matter,” he stated.
