October 30, (THEWILL) — Inter Milan returned to winning form in Serie A with a comprehensive 3-0 triumph over Fiorentina at San Siro. The victory followed their 3-1 loss to Napoli and lifted the hosts to third place in the table, now sitting three points behind reigning champions Napoli and Roma.
The first half produced limited action, though Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea remained busy. The Spanish shot-stopper kept out efforts from Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco to preserve parity at the interval.
Inter dominated after the break and should have scored when Dimarco fired wide from close range following a Lautaro Martinez cutback. The breakthrough arrived in the 66th minute when Hakan Calhanoglu found space outside the area and placed his shot into the bottom corner, giving De Gea no opportunity to save.
Petar Sucic extended the lead five minutes later, beating Pietro Comuzzo before slotting past the Fiorentina keeper. Calhanoglu completed the scoring from the penalty spot after Mattia Viti received a second yellow card for fouling Ange-Yoan Bonny inside the box.
The result moved Inter back into contention at the top end of Serie A, with the three points crucial after their setback against Napoli at the weekend.
