August 03, (THEWILL) — David Roach, lead vocalist of the American hard rock band Junkyard, has died at the age of 59, just two weeks after marrying his partner, Jennifer. His death followed what the band described as a “very aggressive” battle with cancer.
Roach passed away peacefully at home on Friday night, surrounded by loved ones, according to a statement released by Junkyard.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Roach.
“He was a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer, but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother. Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him,” the statement read.
In June, the band had disclosed via social media that Roach had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
His wife, Jennifer, also shared an emotional update at the time, describing the diagnosis as “devastating and life-altering.”
“David is showing such incredible strength and resilience, and even in the midst of this darkness, he’s still managing to keep his sense of humor. It’s a reminder of how amazing he is,” she wrote.
“We know this journey ahead will be extremely tough, but David made it clear he is not giving up hope.”
Born in Texas, Roach co-founded Junkyard in Los Angeles in 1987.
The band’s early lineup included guitarist Chris Gates and briefly featured skateboarding legend Tony Alva on bass. Guitarist Brian Baker joined the group in 1989.
Roach’s gritty vocals helped define Junkyard’s blues-infused hard rock sound, earning the band a loyal following throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s.
His legacy remains woven into the fabric of American rock music.
