August 18, (THEWILL) — Celebrated Nigerian dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has shared her personal struggles with dating as a single mother, shedding light on the unfair stereotypes single parents face in relationships.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old mother of two revealed that a potential suitor once rejected her solely because of her parental status.

“I have had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother, he can’t even think of dating me because I have two children”, she said.

Kaffy challenged society’s assumption that single parents are less desirable partners, arguing that those who have done self-improvement work might actually make better relationships

“What makes you think that a woman who has been divorced is not even the better candidate if she has worked on herself? What’s the guarantee that two single people today are not going to be divorced people tomorrow?… Why are people insisting on marrying someone fresh? But both of you are going into the same data that the world has computed for you, which states that over 70 percent of marriages crash. You are part of the 70 percent”, she added.

Kaffy, who was married to Joseph Ameh, P-Square’s former drummer, from 2015 to 2022, emphasised that personal growth matters more than marital history.

They share two children.

Her comments highlight the persistent stigma divorced women face in dating, sparking conversations about reevaluating societal biases.
