March 28, (THEWILL) – The Kenya Football Federation (FKF) has initiated a comprehensive investigation into allegations of match manipulation involving national goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
The 37-year-old player, who represents Kakamega Homeboyz in the Kenyan Premier League, currently finds himself at the centre of a critical sporting integrity probe following the emergence of an online video.
An undocumented video, which remains unverified by independent sources, appears to suggest potential match-fixing arrangements related to a league game.
Matasi, who has represented the Harambee Stars in over 30 international matches, with his most recent appearance in an October 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, vehemently maintains his innocence through club representatives.
Cleophas Shimanyula, owner of Kakamega Homeboyz, has publicly supported Matasi, emphasising the goalkeeper’s recent performance record.
Shimanyula noted Matasi’s three clean sheets in his first month with the club and challenged the football community to provide concrete evidence of any wrongdoing. The club owner stressed the principle of presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.
The Kenya Football Federation has committed to a transparent investigation, collaborating with international football authorities including FIFA and the Confederation of African Football.
In an official statement, the federation reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on match manipulation and pledged to conduct a rigorous, fair examination of the allegations while protecting the rights of both the player and his club.
The FKF has invited anyone with credible information to come forward, assuring strict confidentiality for potential witnesses.
