April 01, (THEWILL) — Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as Tuface, has sparked reactions after saying Nigeria is better now than it was years ago.
Speaking in a recent interview on Wazobia TV, the singer expressed optimism about the country’s progress despite ongoing challenges.
“We are better off than many years ago. Just look at it”, he stated, responding to comments about recurring political issues.
Tuface agreed that challenges remain, but said Nigerians also need to take responsibility.
“One funny thing with Nigeria is that many things are happening. If someone drinks sachet water and throws it on the expressway, they will say it is caused by Tinubu. When it blocks drainage, they will say it is the governor’s problem.
“Everybody is deviating from their own personal responsibilities, and that is the majority of what is happening in Nigeria”, he added.
He also highlighted low civic awareness among citizens.
“Many people don’t even know who is representing them in the House of Representatives. Many don’t know their councillors in their wards. It’s beer parlour gist that becomes fact-checking.”
Tuface said many people complain without taking action, noting that people often want change but fail to take responsibility for their part, leading to a culture of complaints without contribution.
He added that leading Nigeria is not easy and said he sympathises with those who have held leadership positions.
He also described himself as an ambassador for the country. “I have personally appointed myself as an ambassador of Nigeria… an ambassador everywhere. I am a self-appointed ambassador of Nigeria to everywhere.”
Tuface said he will continue to use his platform to promote Nigeria, but has no plans to join politics. He referenced his 2014 “Vote Not Fight” campaign and said he prefers to remain independent.
The comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media.
