June 28, (THEWILL) – There has been a shift in the dates for the upcoming Nigerian trials, organised by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, by one day.
Initially scheduled to take place from July 6 to 8, the trials will now be held from Wednesday, July 5 to Friday, July 7 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. The decision to reschedule the event was made to accommodate Nigeria’s relay teams, allowing them to participate in the Region 2 Athletics Competitions in Togo, which had coincided with the original dates of the Nigerian trials.
Athletes are now expected to arrive on Tuesday, July 4, with their departure set for Togo set for Saturday, July 8. The Nigerian trials serve as an annual championship, bringing together the country’s top athletes from both domestic and international backgrounds. Participants compete for the opportunity to secure a spot on the national team for the upcoming World Championships or Olympic Games.
This year, the World Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary in August, making the trials a crucial platform for athletes to showcase their skills and vie for representation on the international stage. The rescheduling of the Nigerian trials highlights the commitment of the AFN to facilitate the participation of Nigeria’s relay teams in the Region 2 Athletics Competitions.
By adjusting the dates, the federation ensures that athletes have the opportunity to compete in both events, supporting their pursuit of success at the national and regional levels.
