Adunni Ade

October 08, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actress, Adunni Ade, has secured a major legal win after a court ordered an online news platform to pay her N20 million in damages over defamation.

The lawsuit, filed nearly two years ago, stemmed from a report that linked Ade to an alleged romantic relationship with Senator Dino Melaye.

The blog, identified as Polace Media Limited, had listed her among “six popular Nigerian celebrities” accused of dating the politician, a story she insisted was false and harmful to her reputation.

Ade filed a lawsuit for invasion of privacy and defamation, initially requesting N100 million in compensation.

The court ruled in her favor, declaring the publication false and harmful, and awarded her N20 million in damages.

On Tuesday, Ade took to Instagram to celebrate her victory.

“Won my case Adunni Ade vs. Polace Media Limited (www.naijanews.com). A false story was published about me, but the truth stood tall. This judgment reaffirms that privacy matters and so does integrity. Justice delayed isn’t justice denied.” She wrote

She added humorously that the defendant had fled to avoid paying the fine, telling fans: “Judge granted N20 million in damages, but blogger don japa. Na to garnish account remain.”

Ade revealed that this is not her only case in court, noting that she has won two out of several ongoing defamation suits.

She urged bloggers and media outlets to uphold journalistic integrity and verify information before publishing.
