
November 29, (THEWILL) — Trabzonspor defeated Konyaspor 3-1 at Papara Park in the Trendyol Super League on Saturday.
Paul Onuachu scored twice, first from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute and again in the 50th, whilst Ernest Muci added a third in the 56th minute.
Konyaspor’s only goal came through an own goal by Okay Yokuşlu in the 17th minute.
Referee Alper Akarsu awarded the penalty following a VAR review after Muci went down under a challenge from Bahadır inside the box. Onuachu converted from the spot to level the match before half-time.
Five minutes into the second half, Mustafa Eskihellac combined with Olaigbe down the left before delivering to Onuachu, who controlled and fired home from close range. Muci’s free-kick from a tight angle struck the post before crossing the line to extend the advantage.
Manager Fatih Tekke made three changes from the side that won 4-3 at RAMS Başakşehir, bringing in Muci, Bouchouari, and Olaigbe.
Visca missed out through injury, whilst Folcarelli and Augusto dropped to the bench. Onuachu’s goals took his tally to 11 for the season, and he paid tribute to the injured Visca after his first-half strike.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana made several important saves to preserve the lead, denying Jin-Ho Jo in the 70th minute and stopping a certain goal in the 80th when Sikan attempted to find Onuachu.
Melih Bostan’s header struck the crossbar late on, but Trabzonspor held firm to claim all three points.
The result lifted Trabzonspor to 31 points and extended their unbeaten league run to nine matches. Konyaspor, managed by Çağdaş Atan, remained on 15 points and has now gone four games without a win.
Trabzonspor will travel to Göztepe in the next round, whilst Konyaspor host Çaykur Rizespor.
