June 28, (THEWILL) — French midfielder Paul Pogba has signed a two-year contract with AS Monaco, marking a return to professional football following his doping-related suspension.
The Ligue 1 club confirmed the signing on Saturday via an official statement, with the 2018 World Cup winner set to remain at the club until June 2027.
The move is Pogba’s first senior spell with a French top-flight club, despite his early development at Le Havre before moving abroad.
The 31-year-old was provisionally suspended in September 2023 after testing positive for a banned substance.
A four-year suspension was handed down in February 2024 but was later reduced to 18 months in October, following a successful appeal, clearing him to resume competitive play.
Pogba subsequently reached a mutual agreement with Juventus to terminate his contract in November 2024. His second stint in Turin was marred by persistent injuries and off-field controversies, limiting him to just 12 appearances after rejoining the Italian side from Manchester United in 2022.
During his time at Old Trafford, Pogba made 157 appearances in the English Premier League, scoring 29 goals and providing 38 assists.
He won the Europa League and EFL Cup with United and enjoyed a highly successful first spell at Juventus, where he secured four Serie A titles and multiple domestic trophies.
On the international stage, Pogba has earned 91 caps for France, scoring 11 goals and registering eight assists.
He played a pivotal role in France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup victory in Russia and was part of the squad that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2013. That same year, he was named the Golden Boy, awarded to the best under-21 player in Europe.
