Bunmi Akinnanu “Omije Ojumi”

January 14, (THEWILL) — Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi”, has died at the age of 46. She passed away on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.

The family confirmed her death in an official statement released on Tuesday and signed by Olawale Akinnanu on behalf of the family.

The statement read: “With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”

Akinnanu’s death comes months after she publicly appealed for prayers while battling a serious leg ailment.

In late 2025, a video of the singer surfaced online during a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, where she was seen seated with her leg stretched out as prayers were offered for her healing.

During the service, the presiding cleric disclosed that the singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding in her leg.

The video sparked widespread concern and prompted prayers and messages of support from fans across the country. The exact medical details of her illness were not publicly disclosed.

Akinnanu rose to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that deeply resonated with many Nigerians. She went on to release several other gospel tracks, including Iba Praise, Kò Tó, Ogo Foruko Re, and Ma Sunkun Mo, earning recognition as a respected voice in the gospel music industry.
