April 02, (THEWILL) – FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi will miss the club’s upcoming crucial match against Portimonense due to an injury sustained during Nigeria’s back-to-back qualifying fixtures against Guinea-Bissau.
The 25-year-old full-back played every minute of both matches, before sustaining the knock. Although the Super Eagles lost the first leg 1-0 in Abuja, they recovered to record a victory by the same scoreline in Bissau in the reverse fixture.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen was also involved in both games and has been confirmed to be carrying a knock of his own that will likely keep him out of Napoli’s Serie A tie against AC Milan on Sunday night.
Zaidu has made 17 appearances in the Portuguese League this season, and his absence will be a significant blow to the team’s defence as they seek to retain the league title. The coach, Sérgio Conceição, already has a long list of injured players to contend with, including Diogo Costa, João Mário, Pepe, João Marcelo, and Evanilson.
The injury crisis has left the coach with limited options for the upcoming match, with Brazilian right-back Wendell expected to replace Zaidu in the starting lineup. Currently, FC Porto is in third place in the league, 11 points behind leaders Benfica.
