February 25, (THEWILL) — Nigerian singer, Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Prime Boy, has sued the Nigerian Police Force for wrongful incarceration and violation of his fundamental rights.
He is demanding a formal public apology and an official statement clearing him of any involvement in Mohbad’s death.
Prime Boy said being declared wanted and detained for four months severely affected his life and music career. Although he later surrendered to the police and was released, he said the “wanted” label continues to damage his reputation and stall his progress.
Speaking during a protest in Lagos, he described the emotional toll of the experience.
“I want the Nigerian police to say sorry to me because I really went through a lot. I was detained for four good months. I came to court today because I sued the Nigerian police. My life has been stagnant. What they did to me, if it was someone else, you might not see that person alive again. You can’t allow other people connected to the matter to walk freely and leave me damaged like that. No.”
He also urged the police to publicly clear his name.
“I’m begging the Nigerian police to do the right thing. You declared me wanted, and you didn’t find anything incriminating. Please announce that I’m innocent.”
Prime Boy also expressed frustration that Mohbad has still not been buried nearly three years after his death in 2023. He accused the late singer’s family of enjoying public donations while Mohbad remains in the mortuary.
“Mohbad has not been buried after three years. That’s what I suffered for. His family, brothers and sisters are enjoying the money people donated. Mohbad’s family, do the right thing. Nigerian government, do the right thing.”
After Mohbad’s death, police investigations initially linked the case to injuries allegedly sustained during a physical altercation between Mohbad and Prime Boy in Ikorodu.
However, Prime Boy has consistently denied any wrongdoing. He said he was only trying to calm Mohbad during a dispute between the singer and his wife.
He maintains that his priority is to clear his name and rebuild his life and career.
