July 17, (THEWILL) – The transfer of striker, Hugo Ekitike, from Stade de Reims to Paris Saint-Germain, has been finalised with the 20-year-old joining Les Parisiens on a season-long loan with a purchase option.
The English Premier League side, Newcastle United, were interested in signing the France Under-20 international, who scored 10 goals for Reims in Ligue 1 last season after an unsuccessful attempt in the January transfer window, but the deal fell through on the deadline day.
Despite the club striking a framework agreement with Reims about the fee, Ekitike was sceptical of the benefits of a last-minute transfer to Newcastle. Ekitike finished the season instead, and then he signed for PSG, the reigning French champions.
At the Parc des Princes, this summer has already been jam-packed. The team brought in Portuguese internationals Vitinha and Nuno Mendes from Sporting and Porto, respectively, and replaced Mauricio Pochettino with Christophe Galtier as head coach.
There have also been a number of departures, including Xavi Simons, Colin Dagba, and Angel Di Maria whose incredible football journey will continue at the Allianz Stadium in Serie A with Juventus.
