June 11, (THEWILL) – Rivers United defender, Chidiebubue Duru, has expressed his enthusiasm after receiving a call-up to join the Super Eagles for their upcoming match against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in the TotalEnergies AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
Duru is one of the latest talents from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to be invited by national team coach, José Peseiro. Alongside three other home-based players, Duru is looking forward to making an impact in the squad and contributing to their success in the match scheduled for next Sunday.
Duru and his teammate, Victor Sochima, goalkeeper for Rivers United, Olorunleke Ojo from Enyimba FC, and Divine Nwachukwu of Bendel Insurance are the four NPFL talents included in Peseiro’s 23-man squad. Although the Super Eagles camp in Abuja is currently open, the players will join the rest of the called-up squad members after the final match of the ongoing NPFL Super Six mini-tournament. As the Championship round determines the league champions, Duru and his compatriots are focused on helping Rivers United surpass Enyimba in their quest for the 2022/2023 NPFL title.
Simultaneously, Duru is thrilled about the possibility of making his debut for the national team in the upcoming days. In a media interaction, Duru said: “I am super excited to be among the 20 teams in Nigeria Professional Football League. I am lucky to be called upon to represent the country. It all comes down to determination and prayers, so, I am super excited and happy that I always want hope for this kind of opportunity to represent the country.”
He viewed it as a joyous occasion that will enhance his profile and bring further recognition to his career.
