Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker and actor, Rob Reiner

December 17, (THEWILL) — Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker and actor, Rob Reiner, was formally charged on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents at their Los Angeles home, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Prosecutors allege that Reiner stabbed his parents to death on Sunday and then fled the scene before being arrested hours later in Exposition Park.

The charges include special circumstances for multiple murders and the personal use of a deadly weapon, a knife, which can lead to harsher penalties under California law.

Under California law, a single first-degree murder conviction can result in 25 years to life in prison.

However, with the special circumstances the prosecution has alleged, Reiner could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted.

Prosecutors have not yet decided whether they will seek the death penalty in this case.

Reiner is currently being held without bail and has not yet entered a plea. His arraignment will be scheduled at a later date, once he is cleared to appear in court.

The investigation is ongoing.
