July 02, (THEWILL) — Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been found guilty of two prostitution-related charges following a seven-week federal trial but was acquitted of the more serious allegations of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Combs, 55, faced a total of five criminal charges: one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking, and two counts of transportation for prostitution.
The jury, which began deliberations on Monday, reached its verdict by Tuesday, clearing him of the most serious offenses that carried a potential life sentence.
However, he was convicted on two counts of interstate transportation to engage in prostitution, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. If the sentences are imposed consecutively, Combs could face up to 20 years behind bars.
The prosecution alleged that Combs orchestrated a pattern of behavior that included pressuring women into sexual encounters with other men—referred to in court as “Freak Offs”—and facilitated travel for those encounters.
While the jury was not convinced of the racketeering and trafficking allegations, it found sufficient evidence to convict him on the prostitution-related counts.
The final acquittal on the racketeering charge was delivered early Wednesday morning.
Combs, who appeared in court alongside family members, showed visible emotion as the verdict was read.
Supporters in the courtroom cheered and applauded when the not-guilty verdicts were announced, and Combs himself was seen clapping in apparent relief.
Despite the partial acquittal, the convictions carry serious legal and reputational consequences. His legal team is currently seeking his release pending sentencing, while federal prosecutors have opposed the motion.
The presiding judge is expected to rule on the request in the coming days.
As of the time of this report, a sentencing date has not been scheduled.
