June 11 (THEWILL) — Shakira and Burna Boy were among the stars who took the stage at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Mexico City on June 11.
The pair performed their official tournament song, “Dai Dai”, together for the first time. Shakira opened the performance before Burna Boy joined her on stage, with the two dancing together as fans cheered inside Estadio Azteca, the iconic stadium hosting the tournament’s first match.
The opening ceremony featured a lineup of Latin and international stars. Mexican singer, Lila Downs, officially welcomed fans from around the world with a performance celebrating Mexican culture and heritage.
Belinda and Los Ángeles Azules also entertained the crowd with a performance of “Por Ella”, a song from the official FIFA World Cup 2026 album. Legendary Mexican rock band, Maná, then had fans singing along to their hit song “Oye Mi Amor”.
Colombian star, J Balvin, kept the energy high with a medley of hits alongside fellow Colombian artiste, Ryan Castro, while Venezuelan singer, Danny Ocean, also took the stage during the ceremony.
Also on the lineup, legendary Mexican mariachi singer, Alejandro Fernández, is set to perform Mexico’s national anthem, while South African star, Tyla, is set to perform ahead of the match between Mexico and South Africa.
With performances from Shakira, Burna Boy, J Balvin, Belinda, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, Danny Ocean and Lila Downs, the opening ceremony delivered a vibrant celebration of music, culture and football as the World Cup officially got underway.
The ceremony marked the start of FIFA World Cup 2026, the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada.
