May 17, (THEWILL)- Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is refusing to give up hope that his side can still clinch the English Premier League title on the final day of the 2023/2024 season. Despite Manchester City being heavy favourites, Arteta believes “something beautiful” could occur to see the Gunners crowned champions.
Currently two points behind City, Arsenal need Pep Guardiola’s men to drop points at home to West Ham on Sunday, while they beat Everton. The odds are stacked against them, with the Opta supercomputer giving Arsenal just a 15.9% chance compared to City’s 84.1%. Yet, Arteta is clinging to that glimmer of hope.
“We have to win the game and we hope something beautiful is going to happen. If I don’t believe today, imagine how much I could believe in August!” Arteta stated defiantly. He highlighted how far Arsenal have come to challenge City’s recent domestic dominance.
The Gunners have an excellent final-day record, winning their last EPL game in each of the past 12 seasons – more than any other club. Arteta stressed the significance of having an EPL trophy at the Emirates for the first time since the stadium opened in 2006.
“The trophy is going to be there, it’s possible. We have to do our duty, then hope what happens. Let’s hope that’s the case,” Arteta said. Arsenal are aiming to cap an outstanding season by pulling off an improbable triumph for a title that has eluded the club for over two decades.
